Assembled Threads is an employment-focused social enterprise operating in the manufacturing sector. Established in 2021, the company aims to transform and rebuild the lives of recently arrived culturally and linguistically diverse communities. They provide permanent employment opportunities through their flexible and ethically accredited manufacturing hub located in North Melbourne. By empowering individuals through employment, they contribute to the local economy and foster resilient communities.

In the media, Assembled Threads has garnered attention for tapping into undiscovered migrant manufacturing skills, as highlighted in ABC News and other news outlets.

During their participation in the program, Assembled Threads set outcome goals to review and optimize their business operations, structure, and financial management. They aimed to identify key stages for long-term success, explore opportunities for sustainable growth, and establish a streamlined operational process. They sought to create scalable operational processes and an operations manual for multiple hubs, research and determine the optimal business structure including opportunities for deductible gift recipient (DGR) and not-for-profit (NFP) status, and investigate the requirements to become a preferred supplier to the Victorian government.

Edwina gained valuable insights and knowledge through the application process for the support opportunities she explored. Her growth facilitator connected her with a Senior Relationship Manager who is dedicated to helping business owners cultivate relationships with key contacts in the public sector. Overcoming the challenge of becoming a preferred supplier with the Victorian government, specifically in the health and construction industries, remained a priority for them.

“RFG helped me to dedicate some time to think strategically about the company, rather than being immersed always in the day to day. It was a great sounding board to raise obstacles and challenges we were experiencing, and then be able to brainstorm possible solutions and opportunities for the longer term.” CEO of Assemble Threads, Edwina Walsh stated as she reflected on her experience.

Assembled Threads' dedication to empowering CALD communities through employment and their commitment to social enterprise principles position them as a socially conscious and impactful organization. By focusing on their relationships, key contacts, and expanding their client base, they continue to strive for sustainable growth and create positive change in the lives of their employees and the community they serve.
